The Tenor Saxophone has been gaining notoriety in the Irish music circle in the last few years, becoming a more popular melody-playing instrument, especially in Céili Bands. However, Tenorsaxophonen are still most commonly used in jazz and other contemporary artforms and musical genres.

 

Tenorsaxophonen are one of the most commonly used types of Saxes (besides the Alto Sax). Tuned to the key of E flat, Tenors are bigger saxophones than altos and have a smooth and resonant tone thanks to their range and size. These factors make them incredibly versatile instruments. If you’re picking up the saxophone for the first time, picking a tenor as your starting instrument is a solid choice.
